In our previous random attempts, somewhat wondering if we would run into the
city center of Malaga, it had stayed elusive, so we got directions and set out for our last full day in Spain, that was turning out to also be our one not rainy day – beautiful! So we hiked to the top of Alcazaba, the Moorish Fortress, which dates back the 8th century. From the top we enjoyed the view (the bull ring, the Mediterranean, the spires shooting up through the cityscape with the Sierra as the backdrop) from the deck a lovely lone hotel while sipping a cappuccino. Then we headed down and wound our way through the old streets that led to the Catedral and stopped for lunch at a delightful eatery on
the corner, Le Jardin (the garden) – delicious seafood. As we continued our walk led us to a huge open square that just happened to be the start of Calle Larios, the main street for shopping. As we circled around via the next street down we took the California cafĂ© as a good omen and ran inside for
another warm drink, unfortunately we should have just appreciated the name and moved on, for this was specifically a smoker friendly coffee house (intentional irony I knoweth not) and though it looked fairly clean the ceiling was generously leaking from prior rains… As we started heading back for the car the window display of a hat shop pulled me in. The boisterous owner seemed to radiate the colorful local character that movies are always trying to capture.
